Creative Communities invests in municipalities and other local governing bodies working to build cultural planning into their visions for the future. Cultural planning can assist a community in developing its creative sector as a means to achieve its social and economic objectives. Support is available in three categories: cultural mapping, cultural planning, and cultural tourism strategy.

Description      
The Literacy Now Communities program guides communities through a planning process to identify local literacy needs. The Literacy Now Communities planning process focuses on building partnerships, networking and sharing best practices within BC’s communities and regions.

To join the program, partners within a community or region must submit an expression of interest to 2010 Legacies Now and form a literacy task group. Please see the website for instructions on how to submit an expression of interest. Expressions of interest are accepted on a continuous basis and they are reviewed every two to three months.

Description      
Infusion is a flexible model for generalist teachers focusing on arts-based play and knowledge integration. This model will assist teachers to incorporate the arts, visual art, dance, drama, music and art technology into all kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum subject areas. Infusion will help teachers establish direct linkages across disciplines and provide students with opportunities to use different modes of expression. Infusion encourages active learning where unlimited imagination, partnered with purpose, structure and discipline, help students make connections within multidisciplinary work. Students retain knowledge and use it in many contexts and situations. Creating a school climate that supports collaboration between classrooms and discplines, and that promotes positive learning conditions are primary benefits to using the Infusion arts-enriched learning model.

ABC has developed the building blocks you need to develop an arts celebration in your community. 2010 Legacies Now works with Dolly Hopkins and Public Dreams Society to bring you the Celebrations Toolkit, webcast and workshops. Arts Build Communities is supported by the Province of BC.
