Financial Assistance
Description The Global Fund for Women (GFW) supports women's groups that advance the human rights of women and girls. They help strengthen women's right groups based outside the United States by providing small, flexible, and timely grants ranging from $500 to $20,000 for operating and program expenses. The organization expresses that they value local expertise and believe that women themselves know best how to determine their needs and propose solutions for lasting change. GFW supports the following types of organizations that are eligible for funding: groups of women working together, organizations that demonstrate a clear commitment to women’s equality and women’s human rights, organizations that are governed and directed by women, and organizations based outside of the United States.
Comments Please view the organization's website to view the different types of financial assistance available to applicants. The fund awards about 600 grants annually. Due to the large number of applications received, please allow seven to nine months for the fund to review your request. The fund accepts applications throughout the year and awards grants every three months, and will send applicants a note of receipt within three weeks of receiving the application. Contact Information

Grants Program
Description The mission of the Gwaii Trust is to enhance environmentally sustainable social and economic benefits to the Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands through the use of the fund. The Board accepts funding for the following programs: major contributions program, legacy program, culture as it relates to tourism program, healthy humans program, Haida parity program, arts program, Christmas allocation program, education programs and travel assistance program.

Grants Program
Description In considering applications for funding, the Board of Directors relies on the recommendations of advisory committees. Each advisory committee is made of volunteers with knowledge and expertise in that particular area: animal welfare, arts and culture, children youth and families, education, environment, health and social development, health and medical research, youth and homelessness, and youth philantropy. In addition to the grants and community initiatives in the nine funding areas listed, the foundation also has special granting programs and partnership granting programs.
Comments The first stage is a letter of intent. This consists of a brief proposal to determine basic suitability. The second stage is submission of a full grant application by a specific date. Special Notice: The granting cycle will take place in the fall of 2009. Deadlines and details are being determined, and are expected to be posted around June 2009 for most grant programs. Eligible applicants include registered charities and qualified donees under the Income Tax Act, and First Nations that may be considered a public body performing a function of government. Individuals and businesses are not eligible. Applicants should usually have at least 50% of funding in place when they apply to the Vancouver Foundation. Contact Information

Grants Program
Description The Victoria Foundation has a long and valued history of investment in Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Island communities. More recently, the Foundation has partnered in select cases to expand the reach of its programs and resources across Vancouver Island and throughout the province of British Columbia. The Foundation envisions an effective and imaginative grant program that links available resources to charities that work to preserve and improve livability in our communities. The Victoria Foundation considers grants for charitable organizations from the following funds and scolarships: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Action Fund (Currently not accepting applications), Adoption and Permanency, Youth Education Assistance Fund, and the Irving K. Barber Scholarship Society.
Comments Community grants are awarded in five fields of interest: Arts, Culture and Heritage, Community Service, Education, Environment and Health and Recreation.
