Description      
The mission of the Gwaii Trust is to enhance environmentally sustainable social and economic benefits to the Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands through the use of the fund. The Board accepts funding for the following programs: major contributions program, legacy program, culture as it relates to tourism program, healthy humans program, Haida parity program, arts program, Christmas allocation program, education programs and travel assistance program.

The Harmony Foundation is involved with environement education and builidng leader capacity in this area of work. They provide leaning opportunities in the following areas: builing sustainable societies program, green cities, tools for community action, communities and climate change, biodiversity, water, green garden project, youth vision and greenworks.

Comments      
This is not a funding program, but a learning program. The innovative training programs and educational materials for educators, youth, the workplace, and communities offer a planning framework that groups can use to develop local initiatives on a wide range of environmental issues. Description      
The foundation makes grants in a wide range of areas, including arts, conservation, education, health and welfare. It maintains a flexible policy, with particular emphasis on projects showing promise of general social benefit, but which may initially lack broad public appeal.

Comments      
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. The McLean Foundation will only accept applications from organizations that have first submitted a letter of inquiry and then have been asked to submit a full proposal. Grants made by the Foundation are restricted to organizations which are recognized by Revenue Canada as charitable organizations and are able to provide a registration number.

Description      
The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund (NKDF) Society's funding programs are designed to support sustainable economic activity in northern communities affected by the Kitimat-Kemano project and by the creation of the Nechako Reservoir. The NKDF spends the income from its long-term investments on programs and projects that meet each community’s economic development goals. The grant program supports projects that address one or more of the following key aspects of economic development in the NKDF investment area: infrastructure, planning and research, human development and promotion and brokering.

Comments      
The investment area for the NKDF is normally limited to those areas with evidence of impacts from Alcan’s Nechako Reservoir and Kemano power project. Proposals may be accepted from other areas of Northwestern BC, provided the areas listed below receive economic benefits from the project. They encourage applications from local governments and legally incorporated non-profit organizations serving the following communities and nearby rural areas: District of Vanderhoof, Fort Fraser, Village of Fraser Lake, Stellat'en First Nation Village of Burns Lake, Ootsa Lake, Nadleh Whut’en Band, Saik’uz First Nation, Burns Lake Band, Nee Tahi Buhn Band, Skin Tyee Band, Cheslatta Carrier Nation and Kitamaat Village.

Description      
In considering applications for funding, the Board of Directors relies on the recommendations of advisory committees. Each advisory committee is made of volunteers with knowledge and expertise in that particular area: animal welfare, arts and culture, children youth and families, education, environment, health and social development, health and medical research, youth and homelessness, and youth philantropy. In addition to the grants and community initiatives in the nine funding areas listed, the foundation also has special granting programs and partnership granting programs.

Comments      
The first stage is a letter of intent. This consists of a brief proposal to determine basic suitability. The second stage is submission of a full grant application by a specific date. Special Notice: The granting cycle will take place in the fall of 2009. Deadlines and details are being determined, and are expected to be posted around June 2009 for most grant programs. Eligible applicants include registered charities and qualified donees under the Income Tax Act, and First Nations that may be considered a public body performing a function of government. Individuals and businesses are not eligible. Applicants should usually have at least 50% of funding in place when they apply to the Vancouver Foundation.
