First Nations SchoolNet

Description      
A collaborative initiative from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Generally, FNESC works as a collective organization to facilitate First Nations support for one another in the area of education, and to communicate with both the federal and provincial governments to ensure that First Nations concerns are being addressed. FNESC also works to provide relevant and up-to-date information to First Nations about federal and provincial government policies and programs, to undertake research to support effective First Nations education, and to facilitate communication amongst First Nations and with other education organizations. The First Nations SchoolNet programs are: 1) internet access subsidy, 2) technical support, 3) E-learning CoolSchool, 4) eLibrary Canada, 5) In-Service Workshops, 6) Language Lab, and other initiatives. SchoolNet is now a partnership with the First Nations Education Steering Committee and the First Nations Schools Association. There are 6 regional groups that administer the First Nations SchoolNet program.

New Paths for Education (NPE)

Description      
The First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and the First Nations Schools Association (FNSA) are once again responsible for funding from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) for the New Paths for Education program. The NPE program includes funding for distribution to First Nations communities to support activities related to the themes of capacity building such as governance and infrastructure, improving school effectiveness, school to work transition and new relationship trust.
