EcoAction Program

Description
Since 1995, Environment Canada's EcoAction Community Funding Program has provided financial support to community groups for projects that have measurable, positive impacts on the environment. Funding support can be requested for projects that have an action focus, a community capacity building focus, or a combination of both objectives. In keeping with major Environment Canada and Government of Canada environmental priorities, EcoAction supports projects that address the following themes: Climate Change (projects focusing on reducing greenhouse gas), Clean Water (projects focusing on the diversion and reduction of substances that negatively affect water quality), Nature (projects focusing on protecting wildlife and plants, and protecting and improving the habitat where they live) and Clean Air (projects focusing on reducing air emissions that contribute to smog and air toxics issues). Projects require matching funds or in-kind support from other sponsors.

Green Source Database

Description
This funding source database is one of the many resources produced by Environment Canada's EcoAction funding program to help Canadian communities take action on environmental issues. There are numerous sources of funding and resources for environmental projects available, but finding them can be time consuming and frustrating. This database is designed to facilitate this process. It includes information on programs and organizations that provide assistance in the form of funding, labor cost contributions or in-kind donations to community groups undertaking environmental projects. Some of the programs also fund community health initiatives. This database is updated regularly.

Comments
A brief, one-page information summary on each program/organization is provided. The information offers a general overview of each source of assistance. You should always contact the program sponsor before applying for funding to verify that the information that you have is up-to-date and double-check important details such as deadlines. You will also want to get in touch with the sponsor to ensure that you have all the information you need to submit a successful application.
